Titan Tiller Steering is a patented hydraulically controlled anti-feedback steering system
for select tiller steered outboards.
A Titan Tiller Steering system attaches to select outboards at three places.
- The hydraulic cylinder is held in position by the outboard tilt tube.
- The pivot block assembly connects to the tiller handle at the joint connection.
- The pivot block assembly attaches to the steering arm of the outboard via an adapter.
When the operator is maintaining a set steering course (not pushing or pulling on the tiller
handle) the pivot axis is centered and is not actively pulling either actuator cable and therefore
not opening any valve within the hydraulic circuit. A closed hydraulic circuit blocks out any
steering force created by the outboard regardless of throttle setting or trim position. The
operator will feel absolutely no steering torque or feedback from the outboard.
When the operator is changing steering direction, a very small amount of tiller handle movement
causes the handle to pivot at the pivot axis. It transmits movement through one of the actuator
cables to open a valve within the hydraulic circuit. As the tiller handle continues movement to
effect a steering course adjustment change, hydraulic oil flows through the open circuit until
tiller handle movement ceases. At that very instant, the hydraulic circuit closes, the hydraulic
cylinder locks the outboard in its steering position until tiller handle steering movement causes
the hydraulic circuit to open again. At no time during operation will the outboard steer on its
own.
The Titan Tiller Steering system is constructed using high grade aluminum extrusions that
after machining is hard-coat anodized for superior corrosion protection. All plates, brackets, and
fasteners are stainless steel and the cylinder rod is chrome plated 17-4 stainless steel. Even the
actuator cables are o-ring sealed against contaminants.
